Total Wellness Centre Supports Regulating the Profession

Total Wellness Centre supports the proper regulation of acupuncture and
traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Ontario. Over the course of many years in Ontario, the government, in consultation with the community, has worked to regulate Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine in Ontario. Just like in other jurisdictions such as British Columbia, Ontario now has a new law, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, which purports to regulate clinics and Doctors in Ontario.

This new law will mean the quality of care will rise. A minimum educational standard has been proposed, as have been hygiene and documentation standards. The most highly educated and experienced Practitioners will soon be able to call themselves Doctors of Traditional Chinese medicine. Along with the title of Doctor, comes the privilege of communicating a diagnosis and of course ultimately treating the patient. In addition, the practice of Traditional Chinese medicine will be regulated by the Ontario Regulated Health Professions Act, along with other health professionals such as Doctors (MD), Dentists, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists to name a few.

Total Wellness Centre supports any positive steps the government takes to increase the quality of patient care in our great profession. The Ontario government has set up an interim College to work towards the goal of regulating the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ontario.

Total Wellness Centre and its practitioners strive to be the most educated and qualified practitioners in Ontario. Once the new College of Traditional Chinese Medicine starts to accept practitioner registration, we will ensure that each practitioner is promptly registered.
