Dr. Katty Cao, C.M.D. (D. TCM), D.Ac, MD (China)
Dr. Katty Cao, (pronounced “Chow”) has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine for
over 25 years. Her extensive experience ranges from clinical practice to research and teaching.
Dr. Cao received her B.Sc. in Chinese Medicine from the Shanghai Career Medical College and completed her residency program at the highly regarded Hua Dong General Hospital in Shanghai. She continued most of her career as an attending physician at the Hua Dong General Hospital specializing in obstetrics, gynaecology, infertility, oncology and endocrinology in the Traditional Chinese Department. Hua Dong General Hospital is one of the top researching hospitals in Shanghai, as it is an affiliated teaching facility for several medical schools in the city. It is also a designated healthcare provider for high profile clientele and government officials.
Dr. Cao is the daughter of Yude Cao, a highly respected and prominent physician and professor in the field. Dr. Cao worked along side her father on various editing and researching projects.
Dr. Cao is a member of the Acupuncture Association of China and the TCM Association of China, and the Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Association of Canada. In 1990 Dr. Cao was invited to attend and present her research on geriatrics and menopause at the World TCM conference, in Beijing.
Dr. Cao is married to Dr. David Xi.

Our Doctors of Acupuncture are among a select few Doctors in Toronto who specialize in custom herbal prescription formulas (raw herbs, concentrated powder herbs and 'patent' herbal pills).
The ability to properly prescribe herbs requires years of education and experience. Prescribing patent herbal pills is not a substitute for proper custom herbal prescriptions. While acupuncture can be performed by various allied health professionals, it is our belief that complete education and understanding of traditional Chinese medicine including acupuncture, herbs, tuina massage, and diet, is essential to proper patient treatment.
Presently in Canada, no schools or universities offer degree level courses in Chinese medicine. The highest level of education a locally trained student can hope to achieve is a diploma level course from a private school.
Total Wellness Centre supports the effort to bring university degree level courses to Ontario so that locally trained students can achieve the same high level of education and medical ability as Chinese trained Doctors of Chinese Medicine.
In addition, Total Wellness Centre support the efforts by the community and the government to regulate the profession of traditional Chinese medicine in Ontario.
