Pin yin name Du Huo
Pin yin description Du means solitary or single, and refers to the appearance of the plant stalks; huo refers to this type of plant, one of the Angelica species; the term means lively, and may refer to how it grows; this herb is distinguished from Qiang Huo, where qiang refers to Qiang Zhong, an area in China where this plant grows naturally; both herbs are used similarly, but Du Huo is preferred for damp conditions.
Other common names Pubescent Angelica, Doubleteeth Pubescent Angelica, Tu-huo (based on the Wade-Giles transliteration of the Chinese name).
